Silaplane™
(Reactive Silicones)

Silaplane™ is a reactive polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) having reactive functional groups at one or both ends of the linear siloxane chain.

Characteristics of Silaplane™

  • Excellent properties of silicone can be imparted to various organic resins.
  • By reacting Silaplane™ and organic substances, silicone properties can be long-lasting.

Types of Silaplane™

Silaplane™ has two types, mono-terminal and bi-terminal. Each grade of Silaplane™ has different properties that can be imparted, so please select the appropriate grade for your purpose and application.

Mono-terminal Type

Suitable for surface modification of the physical properties of resins

Imparted Characteristics

  • Water repellency
  • Sliding/Slip property
  • Mold-release property

Bi-terminal Type

Suitable for modification of the physical properties of resins

Imparted Characteristics

  • Flexibility
  • Gas permeability(Oxygen,CO2,H2O,etc)
  • Thermal resistance

The Relationship Between Molecular Weight and Properties of Silaplane™

  • In general, higher molecular weight Silaplane™ exhibits more pronounced silicone properties, but on the other hand, it is less compatible with organic resins other than silicone resins.
  • In order to achieve your desired performance, selecting the appropriate molecular weight from the Silaplane™ lineup is necessary.

Applications of Silaplane™

By using resins modified with Silaplane™, it is possible to impart oxygen permeability to contact lenses, impart water repellency, antifouling properties and surface slipperiness to coatings and artificial leather.
