JNC CORPORATION (CEO & President: Yasuyuki Gotoh, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) announces the completion of renovation of 2 hydraulic power stations owned by JNC in Kumamoto prefecture, and their new commencement of commercial operation.

As a leading chemicals company, the core business of JNC Group includes research & development, manufacturing and selling of liquid crystal materials and organic EL materials. At the same time, we also regard the environment and energy groups as an important business domain and own hydraulic power stations (total maximum output of 93,600 kW) in 13 locations and photovoltaic power stations (total maximum output of 16,100kW) in 4 locations in Japan, and also work on power generation using renewable energy.

All of our hydraulic power stations, including 2 power stations the commercial operation of which has recently commenced, adopt a "run-of-river system." In this system, foreign matters are removed from river water, the water is guided via a channel into a head tank and dropped through a penstock to turn a water turbine for generating electricity. Since the run-of-river type hydraulic power generation does not require a large-scale dam, it is friendly to the environment and is precious, purely domestically produced energy.

Our Company has sequentially promoted large-scale renovation of existing hydraulic power stations. In addition to the Kurino Power Station (Kagoshima prefecture) the commercial operation of which commenced last year, and the Nanatakigawa First Power Station and the Takenokawa Power Station the commercial operation of which has recently commenced, we have decided on the renovation of 5 power stations and are proceeding with construction work in order. Our Company will take advantage of the power generation technologies cultivated so far to contribute to the society by supplying energy in future years through safe and stable operation with consideration for the surrounding environment.
