Escherichia coli grows as indigo colonies, and coliforms other than Escherichia coli grow as blue to turquoise colonies. Counting blue to turquoise and indigo colonies gives the number of coliforms, and counting only indigo colonies gives the number of coliforms. This product can be used as an alternative to ISO 4832 (coliforms) and ISO 16649-2 (coliforms).
