CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 is a hydrophobic spherical cellulose powder. It has high oil absorption and features highly hydrophobicity. As it has excellent slipperiness and texture, it can be suitable to use in foundations, antiperspirant powder, lipsticks, etc. The INCI name of CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 is "Cellulose Acetate".

CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 has a spherical shape and a uniform particle size distribution. For this reason, it has high slipperiness and exhibits excellent elongation in formulations such as foundations.

CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 has a unique sponge structure with a unique technology. This sponge structure is a structure not found in commercially available particles. Although CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 is hydrophobic, it also exhibits water absorption due to its unique sponge structure. CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 is a highly hydrophobic particle, but its unique sponge structure also absorbs water.

The moisture absorption (g/g) was defined as the ratio of the wet weight and the dry weight. Wet particles were prepared that 1 g of the particles were stirred in 1 L of water for 24 hours.

Hygroscopicity and humidity release of CELLUFLOW™ TA-25

CELLUFLOW™ is a porous cellulose fine particle powder. Therefore, it exhibits excellent hygroscopicity and humidity release. Although CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 has hydrophobicity, it has high hygroscopicity and can contain large amount of water by its sponge structure.

Method

  1. Dried the particles at 60 degree C under decompression at overnight.
  2. After the decompression pressure was released, the weight of the particles were measured to obtain the dry weight immediately.
  3. Put dried particles in a desiccator set to a temperature of 25 degree C and a relative humidity of 80%, and measured the change in weight over time.

Method

  1. After putting the particles at a temperature of 25 degree C and a humidity of 80% for 2 days or more, the weight was measured.
  2. The particles were placed in a desiccator set to a temperature of 25 degree C and a relative humidity of 25 %, and measured the change in weight over time.

High safety of CELLUFLOW™

CELLUFLOW™ is a fine particle of cellulose, which is a natural compound. Therefore, it is a highly safe cosmetic ingredient.
Acute toxicity was confirmed by mixing CELLUFLOW™ with food using silk worm. When the progress was confirmed 24 hours and 48 hours after the administration, all the samples maintained their health.

Acute poisoning tests use silk worms, which are recognized as an alternative to animal testing.

Pickering effect of CELLUFLOW™ TA-25

CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 is a highly lipophilic cellulose particle. Adding 10% of CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 has the effect of emulsifying water and oil. This Pickering effect makes it possible to promote surfactant-free products. Surfactants have been reported to cause problems such as causing skin irritation. By making it surfactant-free, it can be created safe cosmetic formulations.

Method

  1. 3 ml of water and 3 ml of olive oil were added to the test tube.
  2. 0.6 g of particles (10% concentration) was added to the test tube.
  3. Water, olive oil, and particles in a test tube were stirred and mixed using a shaker, and left to stand for 3 weeks.
  4. A photo of the test tube was taken after it had been allowed to stand for 3 weeks (left image).

Stainability of CELLUFLOW™

CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 can be dyed vividly

After each particle was dyed, the dyeing solution was removed by filtration and dried. CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 is porous and has many functional groups, so it can be dyed in vivid colors.  

It can be seen that CELLUFLOW™ TA-25 is stained bright red when it is stained with the acid dye erythrosine (Red No. 3) or the reactive dye Procion red HE3B.
