JNC CORPORATION (CEO & President: Yasuyuki Gotoh, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) announces the completion of renovation of the hydraulic power station owned by JNC in Mifune-machi, Kamimashiki-gun, Kumamoto, and the new commencement of commercial operation.

As a leading chemicals company, the core business of JNC Group includes research & development, manufacturing and selling of liquid crystal materials and organic EL materials. At the same time, we also regard the environment and energy groups as an important business domain. We own hydraulic power stations (total maximum output of 93,900 kW) in 13 locations and photovoltaic power stations (total maximum output of 16,000 kW) in 4 locations in Japan, and also work on power generation using renewable energy.

All of our hydraulic power stations adopt a "run-of-river system." In this system, foreign matters are removed from river water, the water is guided via a channel into a head tank and dropped through a penstock to turn a water turbine for generating electricity. Since the run-of-river type hydraulic power generation does not require a large-scale dam, it is friendly to the environment and provides precious, purely domestically produced energy with low carbon dioxide emission.

JNC has sequentially promoted large-scale renovation of existing hydraulic power stations since 2013, and the Nanatakigawa Second Power Station is the fourth station to commence commercial operation. Furthermore, we have decided on the renovation of 6 power stations and are proceeding with construction work in order. The Nanatakigawa Second Power Station has integrated its 2 water turbine power generators into a single generator, which enables electricity to be generated at a more efficient rate to the amount of water intake. Our Company will take advantage of the power generation technologies cultivated so far to contribute to the society by supplying energy in future years through safe and stable operation, with consideration of the surrounding environment.
